Burger Night, Part 1.
Comic text for translation:
Caption: One night…
Butterfly: I thought robots were supposed to be smart.
Knight-Bat: Only as smart as their programmers.
Scientist: Hey, I’m smart!
DUDE! It is totally a great feeling to kick off this nine-part story that teams my art with yet another story crafted with my fellow BFFAer and Chi-Town anti-hero (watch out, criminals, this good guy fights dirty!) JOHN CAMPBELL, who you might recall co-(okay, mostly)-wrote the Butterfly story in AdHouse Books‘ Superior Showcase #1 (in stores now!) John and I are teaming up yet again to bring you this short story, “Burger Night,” in Butterfly’s new new format, which allows for the strips to be collected more easily into printed books. I hope you enjoy.
By the way, if you haven’t yet been peer-pressured into picking up your own copy of Superior Showcase, you really should, as it’s the one place you’ll find out the secrets of Butterfly’s powers and how he met Birdie. Reviews have been pretty dang positive:
“You’d be hard-pressed to find more quirky fun in a single issue anywhere else, so pick this up and support the start of a great new anthology.” - Rickey A. Purdin, Wizard Magazine.
“Dean Trippe, creator of the online DC hero parody Butterfly, gives us a beautifully drawn, long-form version of his online strips, in which a sidekick takes on a sidekick of his own, and they go up against the threat of hipster ghosts, who smell like clove cigarettes and attack you with condescension. Awesome.” - J. Caleb Mozzocco, Las Vegas Weekly.
“‘Butterfly’ is a perfect ending to SUPERIOR SHOWCASE. There’s a nostalgic sweetness to it that reflects some of the feelings that many of us may have for the super hero comics we grew up with.” - Shawn Hoke, Comic World News.
“…the sidekick gets a sidekick. We love every moment of it.” - Matt Baume, SFist.
I have to tell you, without John Campbell, that story wouldn’t have come together with half the fun, sweetness, and sincerity that these reviewers are picking up on. Thanks, John. Working with you is always a blast.
By the way, my other strip, WAKE, is also up and running, with the online powergroup, ACT-I-VATE. Parts One and Two of the weekly series are now live.

Dude, I totally picked up SS#1! I had to hurdle through rows of action figures, board games and trading cards to get to it, but it was so worth it!

Yeah, the “5″ was hilarious. The villain revealing himself by calling out from the crowd was funny too. Thanks for the link to the website where I can pick up Superior Showcase, Dean. I’ll be doing just that. The origin of Butterfly and Birdie must be read!
