As enticing as that sounds, (and beleive me, it DOES) at this point it would not be cool or original, and I bet only you and I would do a drawing for it anyhow. _________________ I want candy |

The interesting thing is how it is not duplicatable. It just happened and that was it. It's like a riot. Except without the looting and destruction. _________________ Hey, I draw sometimes! |

Kinda reminds me of flash mobbing!
("a public gathering of complete strangers, organised via the Internet or mobile phone, who perform a pointless act and then disperse again")
I probably should have done an actual Batgirl rather than drawn a penis, because now? Now I feel left out. _________________

You didn't swipe anything? Dude, I made smashed in some windows and made off with some original Dean Haspiel pages and a Catwoman statue. You can check them out on my eBay auctions. _________________ Dean Trippe | Project Rooftop |

I'm actually more concerned where the hell the word "Meme" came from. You spend the better part of the last decade online and it turns out everyone knows a word that you don't.

Well, Jared, when a mommy word and a daddy word love each other very much...
No, but seriously, since it was created to describe the mental equivalent of a gene, I'm thinking it was probably created by some stodgy guy with a bushy moustache and a university grant.

According to Wikipedia it was popularized by Richard Dawkins in his book "The Selfish Gene" (back in the 70s), but the word itself has been around much longer. But, that's Wikipedia, which according to popular consensus is unreliable. Popular consensus, on the other hand is a big know-it-all.
I first read the word a few years ago in a book on guerilla marketing (forget the title/author- probably 'Guerrilla Marketing"), but the author spelled it 'mneme', which is way more pretentious. _________________ Hey, I draw sometimes! |

Groovy. I got this anonymous entry in my Blog when I responded to the Batgirl Meme and not knowing the word:
| Quote: | | Meme (rhymes with 'team') is a pretty vague term. As it is commonly used, it means a viral idea, one that is replicated in new hosts by contact with the original and/or another carrier. The term was coined by Richard Dawkins in The Selfish Gene, to describe a self-propagating unit of cultural information. Religions, for example, are meta-memes, giant conglomerations of ideas and information transmitted through entire populations across millenia. Livejournal quizzes and internet 5p33|<, in fact most transmitted ideas, can be considered as memes with differing levels of virulence. |
Anonymous people are wise sometimes.
But how long have 10 year olds been using this term to make quiz-swapping seem more legit or at least academic? That's the part that floors me. Ends up my friends all knew the term, but the first most seem to have heard it popping up in mortal usage was a year ago. I'm just curious.
