Note: P:R Pal Simon Daoudi of Comic Impact has posted several scans from this week’s Entertainment Weekly article on the upcoming Captain America: First Avenger film, along with what I believe is the first image released of Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull (sans skull-face). For our initial thoughts on the new silver screen Cap costume, check our earlier post here. – Dean Trippe
The EW article also included this quote from star Chris Evans on his initial hesitance in taking on the iconic role that I just wanted to repost because it’s something I’m always trying to remember myself and pass on to everyone:
I was just scared. I realized my whole decision making process was fear based, and you never want to make a decision out of fear.
Too true, Chris! Check out the full images at Comic Impact!

/ October 28, 2010That shot of him from the back in the leather jacket and drab fatigues with the first shield slung over his shoulder is flipping awesome. I dare say, iconic.

/ October 28, 2010Check out that heavy herringbone blue fabric and white cotton twill. Its exactly the fabric that should’ve been used. The production design for this film is thrillingly good.
Also: Herr Rot Schädel’s red piping is fantastic!

/ October 28, 2010I gotta say I didn’t like the whole red suspenders thing in the concept art, but now that I’ve seen it on an actual human it’s beginning to grow on me.

/ October 29, 2010I’m beginning to think that maybe this movie might have a slim chance of not sucking too much. Let’s go through the list…
Possible Former Cons
1. Chris Evans: Looks more like Cap than I thought possible. Also he can act when he puts his heart in it. Oh, and he is an actual American, too many good American rolls go to Brits or Irish actors nowadays!
2. Costume: Looks much better than in those original publicity photos. The mask should be left off most of the movie, it’s a bit corny looking. Lovin’ the triangle shield!
3. They have cast the Red Skull perfectly.
4. WWII era looking pretty good. Not sure that they could pull of “Band of Brothers” authenticity…maybe they can?
Most comic book movies are forgettable, could this be great like a Spiderman 2, Iron Man 1 or Dark Knight? I think it has a chance.
