P:R Approved: Ben Bates’ Redesign of Archie’s Crusaders!

Note: It’s tough to relaunch a comics universe — just ask DC Comics. But it looks like that’s what Archie Comics is doing to their super-heroes as they’ve pulled them back from DC’s recent licensing and are bringing them back in a big way. Announced at San Diego Comic-Con, this pin-up by Ben Bates has a lot to like in this piece — Check out the Fly! – Chris A.

  1. Most of these character designs just seem really uninspired to me. It’s like they took each character’s namesake and created the most generic looking superheroes ever. They look like the type of designs you would find in one of those cheap “How To Draw Superheroes” books that isn’t published by Marvel.

  2. I, for one, am excited by this– DC blew their chances with these characters with THEIR horribly uninspired “Red Circle” titles. Frankly, these designs look ten times more exciting and much closer in spirit to the original Archie heroes.

  3. all for it if it gets comics back in grocery stores and back into the hands of kids. The Web and Steel Sterling are my favorites out of this.

  4. I’m excited for this. I’ve always loved these characters, from their original series, through the DC Impact titles. (Couldn’t really get into the Red Circle stuff, though.) And I agree with Nick above: that Comet design is the best.

  5. They didn’t fit into the DC universe, just because they need the lightier tone of Archie Comics to be diferent and shine on their own.

  6. DC dropped the ball with the Mighty crusaders if its true and a new series apart from DC is coming out maybe Warner Brothers could use them as a test bed for a future Justice League movie just thinking out loud here
