P:R Redesign: Jason Reeves’ Milestone Heroes!

Note: Artist Jason Reeves returns to P:R today to show us the heroes of the Dakotaverse are not to be forgotten. Current DC hero Static is re-envisioned, along with Icon and Hardware, show a more progressive take on the Milestone heroes.  Reeves’ also wrote an elaborate text document to go with each entry that you can see at the link below each piece. With all the creativity on display here, I’m wondering what Reeves has in mind for the other Milestone heroes.  – Chris A.

  1. I like the look of Static, but at the same time it just seems off. I’m not a big fan of the regular clothes as a costume look. Icon as a female is interesting and has a nice feel, but hardware is the best in my opinion.

  2. Rocket at Icon, I like it! Don’t like the big hoop earrings, even if she has Superman type powers.

I’m thinking Reeve’s Dakotaverse would work as a unified story, like what New Universal was to be, instead of stand alone series. That’s the impression I got reading the descriptions for Icon and Hardware.

  3. Ewwwwhh not a fan…I like Static’s iconic hoodie especially with recent events it makes it all the more poignant and relevant to urban fashion. Icon…okay same costume just sidekick wearing them now, I prefer the man. Hardware looks retarded and the concept is too far from it’s source.

  4. I love the new Icon. I also like how Hardware’s new look is a radical departure from his old o antes well as the simplicity of the color palette.

  5. I like the Rocket-as-Icon, but Static doesn’t look a thing like the Virgil I know and love and Hardware looks like a cross between Whiplash and the Absorbing Man.

  6. I just can’t bring myself to love these designs. They’re well drawn and have good ideas, but all have things I just dislike aesthetically.

Static doesn’t look like a teenage kid with electricity powers. He looks like Spike Lee, and that bothers me a lot. The electric cardigan is cool and the sneakers are inspired, but that’s about all I can get behind.

Icon’s outfit would be great, but there’s so much going on, and the bagginess bothers me. The idea of rocket becoming Icon is neat, but that outfit doesn’t sell ICON to me, just a teen in an ill fitting outfit

Hardware is the one that bothers me the most. The legs are well designed, but everything north of that freaks me out. It doesn’t look like armor (Yes, I know a lot of armor doesn’t look like armor in comics, but I thought we were moving past that). It looks too organic to me, or like the stuff you see in some self-published comics. That said, it’s drawn very well. Can we get an armor that looks like armor and not some horrible thing growing on this man?
