Off-Duty: Mark Bello’s Storm!

Note: She’s owner of some of the most diverse outfits in comics, and today at P:R artist Mark Bello takes Storm down a new route. Seemingly borrowing items from Wolverine and Jubilee’s closet, Ororo Monroe is rocking a new hairstyle as well as some new duds. It may not be practical for fighting super villains, but what about for a classic X-Men baseball game? – Chris A.

  1. Kinda reminds me of Age of Apocalypse Storm but rocking a project runway worthy hairdo instead of the mullet. I’m not sure I love it, but I definitely don’t hate it

  2. Storm is royalty and a grown-ass woman. I don’t think this really vibes with her character/personality.

  3. Tyler B: I think you’re unfamiliar with the breadth of Storm’s history, primarily the punk years during the Claremont run and the recent Ellis run. Or the latter Claremont run where she had a page-boy haircut.

  4. @Chris A.
Familiar with her punk look, I could see it working in that era but not so much recently.

  5. Storm recently revisited the punk look in ASTONISHING X-MEN, so I don’t think Mark Bello’s design is outside her character as you said it was.

  6. Chris: To my eternal disappointment, that was an alternate-universe Storm rocking the ‘hawk. The current one looks a lot like the original.

I don’t know if Storm would be so quick to jump on modern trends, especially as queen of Wakanda, but with the sliding timeline she should be somewhere in early-2000s fashion by the time she reached the punk era. So it all fits!

  7. Chris A: Oh, this is a misunderstanding. I thought you meant the Storm whom Cyclops is kissing on the cover of ASTONISHING X-MEN #44, who is from an alternate universe. Additionally, I wonder how Storm could have grown her hair back in time for the main portion of Ellis’ run… but I guess it doesn’t have to make sense.

    Comics, everyone.

  8. Chris: What’s with the glasses?

Due to all the trend spotting and looking down on people (who are so obviously less cooler than them), some hipster develop bad eyesight and are forced to wear large precariously perched spectacles. The larger the frames, the more superior the hipster.

  9. Edwin: Kinda reminds me of Age of Apocalypse Storm but rocking a project runway worthy hairdo instead of the mullet.I’m not sure I love it, but I definitely don’t hate it

FYI She looks nothing like AOA Storm, she wore a turquoise Kenyan tunic over a full body silver catsuit with a short shaggy hairstyle.

  10. Am I the only one that sees more than a passing resemblance to Tina Turner in Beyond Thunderdome???

  11. Wait, isn’t that the look she had when she was Wolverine’s Lover… or is my memory completely jacked?
