She-Design/He-Design: Pat Billings’ Punisher!

Note: Frank Castle may be all man, but model-maker/sculptor Pat Billings thinks the Punisher can mean something more. It’s not the first time the Punisher has been a woman, and Billings here has really done the costume justice, and I could easily see this being an alt-reality version where Frank’s wife Maria lived and he did not. Billings promises more in the future, including doing some models of some of P:R most popular redesigns. – Chris A.

  1. I like it. The long gloves are a nice touch, I’d like to see them blood splattered though. Her blonde hair seems an odd choice for such a dark character. Giving her black hair would make her more of a “Frank Castle as a woman” this looks too much like Barbie … maybe because it’s a sculpt?

    Try giving her some stubble.

  2. I don’t think she-Punisher would bother with as much lipstick and eye shadow!

I suppose IP laws would prohibit selling models of PR favorties. :(

  3. I think I’d prefer to see the top of the skull arc up more; the current shape looks weirdly lumpy, because it tries to follow the curve of her breasts down into her cleavage.

Overall the design is pretty good, though. I just wish the sculptor had put her in a different pose — standing hip-shot like that makes her look like the gun is too heavy for her, and that doesn’t really communicate strength or intimidation.

  4. Hellboy was my first thought as well.

(OK, as I scrolled down, my first though was “Sharon Carter”. But thoughts two and three were simultaneously “Hellboy”.)

  5. Nice sculpt but contradicts the Punisher’s whole intent. The punisher is usually all stubbled with dark circles under his eyes and a scowl, and she has a pony tail and lipstick. And if she has a skull bustier shouldn’t that mean the male Punishcer would have a skull jock strap or codpiece of some kind?

  6. Maybe I will be a bit sexist with this comment….
But I imagine a female Punisher more BDSM Mistress style, more like corset and leather pants or total black latex with the white skull on it.

  7. I gotta admit: I’m not really feeling this one. It feels more like the latest in the Barbie Marvel license line than a he/she character gender swap.

  8. Yep, I’m with everyone else here. Just not feeling it. Great sculpt, I think. Fantastic detail. But the actual design doesn’t jive with the nature of the character. Little too glam. But the sculpt is strong enough that I definitely want to see more of Pat’s work.

  9. Dedpool: Nice! The skull boustier is a nice touch. Love to see a more gritty version.

Thanks! I made this figure about 10 years ago and my intention was to make a female figure who’s costume/look matched the 70′s Punisher.

  10. Logan: Does the skull on her chest remind anyone else of Hellboy, or is it just me?

The skull is actually my own design, inspired by the numerous other designs.

  11. Like many, the hair seems weird to me, but I could accept it as a wig worn to hide her normal short, black hair. The makeup; eh, maybe not practical, but make the lipstick black and add more eye shadow to emphasize the tired, skull sunken in aspect and yeah I could see that. The skull does look a little off being set so low, drawing the eyes to the stomach.

Thanks! I wanted to get away from the classic black hair, make this a woman who might not be taken seriously because of her looks and use that to her advantage.

See my reply to Jay. :)

Thanks for the fedback. While I believe a female Punisher’s intent would be exactly the same as her male counterpart, she would have to go about reaching her objectives in a different way. I feel her beauty is a tool to be used against her foe; even with expert killing skills both physically and with her weapons, her beauty/body could be used to her advantage when dealing with the usual male criminal scum. :)

That’s exactly what she wants you to think as you lay on that cold warehouse floor dying- “Damn I got shot up by Barbie!” lol

I have to agree that she looks too much like a Barbie doll. Though you can tell the artist has a lot of skill, I’m kind of disappointed that he went the “sexy lady” route. That seems too easy, like a cop-out. He went with the “every female comic character must be beautiful and sexy”, instead of trying to make her fit with the core personality of the Punisher.

Oh no! Sorry! I didn’t mean to suggest that you’d copied Hellboy, it’s just the shape of it reminded me of Hellboy’s face.

    No Problem!!! Wasn’t upset. :)
