Superheroes, Redesigned

P:R Approved: Phil Jimenez’ Hippolyta!

Note: One of my favorite Wonder Woman runs of all time was Phil Jimenez, so its with wistful and renewed admiration that I see that Marvel has hired Jimenez to redesign its own Hippolyta character for an appearance in the forthcoming Fearless Defenders. Jimenez posted this glimpse over on his twitter, and what I wouldn’t give to see his other concept sketches for this. – Chris A.

Y’know, as much as I like that armored bustier, I would really have appreciated a chest plate for a warrior queen. Heck, she’s got a neck guard, but her cleavage is on full display?

that’s rather awesome, glad to see one company getting a true pro to do redesigns.

this reminds me a lot of the battle Witch from The Lion Witch and The Wardrobe movie.
Mainly because of the hair and the what appears to be lion heads on the calf.

Regardless, it looks really cool and feisty!

  5. I like it but because Jimenez drew WW for a bit, I look at this and see a DC Amazon, especially with that chestplate. Otherwise I like it.

    Oh, dear me…
This is – godawful. “Busy” is not nearly enough to express the overbearing amount of unnecessary detail on this mess.
    No. Way.

And that’s apart from the fact that noone could move, not to mention fight, in an armor that fixes the neck to the waist like that.

Am I the only one that thinks the headpiece looks like Marvel’s Nova’s helmet?

It wouldn’t look out of place in the 1980 Flash Gordon movie.

I don’t think the neck guard is attached quite that way

I would agree, but then she looks just like a DC amazon. So i disagree. Liefield did a better job with Glory by giving it to new talent and really revamping the character. Here there’s no risk, just pure penciler skill illustrating a slightly off Wonder woman.

Agreed. Someone else mentioned that it would be at home in a Flash Gordon movie, and I agree: you could possibly get away with this in a space opera, but our Amazon queen needs a full breastplate.

  12. White girl dreads. No.
