P:R Regulars: Yasmin Liang!

Note: Not everyone can win our P:R contests, and in the array of runners-up and honorable mentions you see a sea of quality talent. She’s gone to have several of her pieces earn a solo feature here on the site, and we’re always on the lookout for more work by her in our inbox and online! - Chris A.

P:R Approved: Tim Gibson’s JLA: Mythic!

Note: DC’s Elseworlds concept is like catnip for comics fans, giving them the chance to reimagine their favorite heroes and villains in different settings, time peroids and universes. Professional film concept designer Tim Gibson did this one-off piece featuring the main men of DC’s  Justice League in medieval times. Even though their wardrobes are highly different, you can still see the personalities of the characters in their outfits and body postures… and Superman is still a farm boy all grown up. – Chris A.

Maris Wicks’ Aquaman Collection!

Note: P:R Regular Maris Wicks returns today with an epic runway line-up putting DC’s Arthur Curry in six sets of Aquaman duds. Drawing inspiration from David Bowie to The Life Aquatic, Wicks really immersed herself in the character to come out with these six unique looks. According to the artist, she aimed to do “era-themed approaches” to Aquaman, incorporating pop-culture influence from each era. – Chris A.

Aquaman #1: Probably obvious, but this is basically a Aquaman-themed David Bowie Ziggy Stardust (early 1970s). Here’s a link to a pic and article: http://blogs.houstonpress.com/rocks/2012/02/ziggy_stardust.php

P:R Redesign: Kris Anka’s Aquaman & Zatanna!

Note: P:R Regular Kris Anka is back, and carrying on his methodical redesign of DC’s finest — The Justice League. After tackling the big threewith his Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, he goes for marine life and magic with Aquaman and Zatanna. Just as each design is a unique revision of what’s gone before, take note to see how Anka has kept a cohesive over-arching design to all of the JLA characters he’s done so far. – Chris A.

P:R Approved: Cliff Chiang’s Justice League of Japan!

Note: For an artist working full-time in super-hero comics, sometimes when you have some free time you want to experiment. Wonder Woman artist Cliff Chiang did just that a few years back with a series of illustrations imagining a band of Japanese superheroes inspired by the heroes of the Justice League. In what Chiang describes as a mix of DC, old school anime and kaiju, this take was almost greenlit by DC a years ago. Just imagine. – Chris A.

P:R Redesign: Rob Nix’ Justice League!

Note: Although he’s not finished on the colors, I couldn’t wait in showing off this sooped-up take on DC’s Justice League by artist Rob Nix. I love seeing him borrow elements from across each character’s long history to create these gestalt designs, especially Wonder Woman’s. I’m unconvinced about the Green Lantern design, but tell us what you think about them all.  Go below the jump to see more detailed renderings of Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman. – Chris A.

P:R Redesign: Paulo Siqueira’s Justice League!

Note: There have been a swath of fresh new faces drawing comics in recent years, and one of the ones that have piqued my interest most is Paulo Siqueira with his work on Amazing Spider-Man. For fun, Siqueira is developing his own take on DC’s Justice League which has had some phenomenal entries. The Brazilian artist is only half-way done but I couldn’t wait in showing the P:R readers. – Chris A.

P:R Regulars: Maris Wicks!

Note:Imagination is a key part of making a redesign work — and some of our regular contributors have that in spades. Artist Maris Wicks has participated in several of our contests and even a few standalone entries, and she always brings an inventive spirit that’s unafraid to take some chances. This one-time Marvel zombie considers her the Fred Hembeck of the P:R HQ, and looks forward to seeing more from her. – Chris A.

She-Design/He-Design: Yasmin Liang’s Justice League!

Note: Transposing your favorite characters to another gender has been a popular pastime for both artists, cosplayers, as well as comic creators. This pin-up by Yasmin Liang takes inspiration from the recent “gender bent” Justice League cosplayers from Comicon to wonderful effect. - Chris A.
