Wonder WomanNote: One of our most popular P:R Regulars in quite some time is artist Joe Quinones. Fresh out of college, Quinones began wowing us here at P:R before he caught the eye of Marvel and DC. Joe has placed high in a number of our contests, and won our spectacular Wonder Woman: Wardrobe War contest a few years back. Thanks, Joe! – Chris A.

Note:Imagination is a key part of making a redesign work — and some of our regular contributors have that in spades. Artist Maris Wicks has participated in several of our contests and even a few standalone entries, and she always brings an inventive spirit that’s unafraid to take some chances. This one-time Marvel zombie considers her the Fred Hembeck of the P:R HQ, and looks forward to seeing more from her. – Chris A.

Note: Love for DC’s characters is rising in fans judging by the number of submissions P:R has received as of late. Priscilla Tramontano‘s redesign of five of DC’s stalwart heroines brings new ideas to the table that’s sure to get fans talking. I love ‘em, and thanks to John Struan at SuperPunch for passing it along to us! – Chris A.

Star Sapphire

Mera

Black Canary

Note: Leave it to Cliff Chiang to rock my socks when it comes to an inspired redesign of some icons of the the superhero genre. This “Band of Prey” puts DC’s Wonder Woman, Black Canary and Zatanna into the guise of rock stars. I especially like the Joan Jett-locks on Diana and the SG she’s using. – Chris A.

Here’s what Cliff said about the piece over at his blog:
Inspired by a late-night viewing of The Runaways, and partly an exercise to see if I could make star-spangled pants and Wonder Woman go together. The idea started with Wonder Woman (I briefly entertained using an Ian Curtis Batman) but the idea of an all-girl rock band with Black Canary, Zatanna and Batgirl seemed too good to pass up.
Note: Project: Rooftop is built on the idea of good super-hero costume design — and sometimes we find something a little outside the norm but is amazing: and this is one of them. Artist Katrina Navarro has been taking the design and style of her favorite super-heroes and translating it into wardrobe choices any of us could wear. The selection below sticks to DC, but she promises more Marvel-themed attire in the future. Sweet! – Chris A.

Character: Black Canary
Publisher: DC Comics
Artist: Maris Wicks
Reviewer: Dean Trippe
A sexy superheroine with a sonic scream, Black Canary has seen her fair share of costume changes over the years, but is best known for her blonde hair, black suit, and fishnets. Maris has retained all of those attributes in this styling redesign. Since a 1980′s revision, Black Canary has been a legacy character, with the mantle passing from mother to daughter. Since the current Canary’s a grown woman (and supposedly about to is marry Green Arrow), I think this design makes the most sense as a next gen character. I could really see a character with this vibe working well on the Teen Titans, or kicking around the BC/GA books. I especially love the sneakers and jacket (dig the patch).
