P:R Approved: Giovanni Costa’s Spaghetti Gotham!

Note: It seems seeing your favorite heroes and villains transformed and twisted into new times and locales is a popular past-time for artists, as Costa Giovanni has stepped up to the plate and taken Gotham’s gang into the Wild West, Sergio Leone style. Costa’s style really works here, and the standouts for me are the turncoat Two-Face and the Native American Nightwing. Thanks, Giovanni! – Chris A.

P:R Approved: Bengal’s Catwoman!

Note: We will leave off this week with a great piece of fan-art of Catwoman by the french artist Bengal. He’s done a number of great Catwoman pieces for fun, pulling in Catwoman styles from Julie Newmar to the later Batman: The Animated Series’ design. If you like this, do an internet search for ‘Catwoman’ and ‘Bengal’ and you’ll be in for a treat.. – Chris A.

P:R Approved: Axel Medellin’s Catwoman As If Designed By H.R. Giger!

Note: The good folks over at the CBR blog Comics Should Be Good recently had a fun art challenge where artists were tasked with redesigning a comic book character from the vantage point of a popular science fiction writer or artist. Elephantmen artist Axel Medellin jumped in with both feet as he re-interpreted DC’s Catwoman through the vantage point of H.R. Giger. While the Batman Forever-esque nipples is a downer for me it is reminscient of what Giger might do, and the design of the helmet, hands and glove is positively inspired. – Chris A.

P:R Redesign: More Of Denis Medri’s 1950′s Gotham!

Note: After reimagining Batman, Nightwing and Robin in the seedy 1950s greaser scene, artist Denis Medri returns to take a look at the rogues of Gotham and more of Batman’s supporting. Catwoman, Joker, Poison Ivy and Bane join Batgirl, James Gordon and Alfred in round out this amazing collection of Rockabilly gothamites. It’s interesting to note that reimagining Catwoman for the 1950s brings her costume full circle, close to her original suit from the 1940s. – Chris A.

P:R Approved: Gene Gonzales’ Stylish 1968 Revamps of Catwoman, Riddler & Death!

Note: Superheroes have a long tradition in American history, but artist Gene Gonzalez is giving that a whole new meaning with a series of pin-ups re imagining some heroes and villains in the tell-tale styles of 1968. So far he’s done renditions of Catwoman, the Riddler and Death that’s received a lot of buzz. Go over to his site for detailed notes on each design, and hopes of more to come! – Chris A.
