Superheroes, Redesigned

P:R Approved: Kris Anka’s Harley Quinn!

Note: Harley Quinn has been DC’s scarlet sweetheart since she was first introduced, but her recent revamp in the “New 52″ has turned some people off Dr. Quinzel’s escapades. But this redesign by Kris Anka takes that original design by Bruce Timm with the more sexualized current design into something I could really get behind. And it’s a little thing — but the little wisp of hair poking out of her jester’s hat seems like something Harleen would spend hours on to make just right. – Chris A.

P:R Approved: Daniel Krall’s Joker and Harley Quinn!

Note: Our Iron Man: Invincible Upgrade winner Daniel Krall returns to P:R today and shows off a great twisted take on DC’s resident funnyman the Joker and his associate, Harley Quinn. – Chris A.

P:R Approved: Ted Naifeh’s 1920s Batman & Friends!

Note: Batman can’t be limited to one time and one place; in comics we’ve seen him go everywhere from the prehistoric age to the far-flung future, and now pro artist Ted Naifeh is taking the Dark Knight to the Art Deco age. Inspired by magazine illustrator Russell Patterson, Naifeh’s dreamt up a 1920s Gotham replete with Batman and his assorted rogue’s gallery. Seeing Harley Quinn as a flapper is a no-brainer. – Chris A.

P:R Approved: Cliff Chiang’s Justice League of Japan!

Note: For an artist working full-time in super-hero comics, sometimes when you have some free time you want to experiment. Wonder Woman artist Cliff Chiang did just that a few years back with a series of illustrations imagining a band of Japanese superheroes inspired by the heroes of the Justice League. In what Chiang describes as a mix of DC, old school anime and kaiju, this take was almost greenlit by DC a years ago. Just imagine. – Chris A.

P:R Redesign: Matthew Humphrey’s Girls of Gotham Animated Series!

Note: Batman: The Animated Series inspired an entire generation of artists, and storyboard artist Matthew Humphreys is paying that forward with this set of inspired animated reboots of some of Gotham’s Finest. No Batman here, but he’s not needed with the style and substance on display. Check out Poison Ivy’s cloak, and the haunting redesign of Clayface! – Chris A.

P:R Redesign: Priscilla Tramontano’s Gotham Sirens!

Note: Gotham City is known for many things, and one of the threatening and titillating examples is its villainesses. Artist Priscilla Tramontano returns to P:R to show off her modern revamp for three of Batman’s rogues: Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn. Tramontano tells us that while these three aren’t begging for a redesign as much as others, she attempted to make them look “a little more modern” by having each of them representing a distinctive fashion style. – Chris A.

My shot at Selina, my favorite Gotham girl, is something more like a “professional thief”, equipped with all these high tech gadgets and mountaineering gear.

Poison Ivy is the kind of stylish woman, a Pin-up babe, who happens to control plants.

I see Harley Quinn as this inconsistent and irresponsible girl hanging out with the wrong gang. Not a hooker, not a mean person, just a very very confused kid. “Crazy” if you like. Her style would be similar to what Harajuku girls wear.

P:R Redesign : Michelle Sciuto’s Harley Quinns!

Note: If DC’s New 52 has done anything for costume design, it’s tasked fan artists to imagine what else is in those characters’ wardrobe closets. These designs by Michelle Sciuto take the clown princess of Gotham Harley Quinn and make her everything from belle of the ball to beachball throwing villainess. – Chris A.

Off-Duty: Hanie Mohd’s DC Ladies In Sweaters!

Note: With the winter season soon approaching, P:R is dusting off their winter wardrobe and artist Hanie Mohd read our mind with these mesmerizing pictures of DC heroines (and a villainess or two) in full-on sweater weather. – Chris A.

P:R Redesign: Ferd Poblete’s Hipster Heroes!

Note: We’ve seen DC heroes reimagined for the modern day, but what about the modern day hipster? Artist Ferd Poblete makes our dreams a reality, and also throws in a bonus from the Marvel side of town. – Chris A.

Claire Hummel’s Harley Quinn

Note: DC’s Harley Quinn is one of the most recent additions to the DC family, and boy does she have spunk. Originally created in DC’s Batman: The Animated Series, she was quickly brought over and has added something special to Gotham City. This lively redesign by Claire Hummel takes Harley’s jester-inspired wardrobe and gives it a real old school 1800s flair. – Chris A.
