Note: Late last week DC Comics unveiled the first look at the heroes of their new Earth-2 to headline the upcoming Earth 2 and World’s Finest series. With these two covers we got to see some interesting renditions of DC’s top Trinity as well as two of its top comic heroines who’ve both been in need of a makeover. Let’s see what our P:R panel has to say about them all. – Chris A.
Note: The artist of last month’s winter X-Men piece is back with a cohesive redesign of DC’s Justice League. George Kambadais has taken DC’s premiere super-team and turned them from an informal grouping of solo heroes to a unified force for good (and for fashion). Note: For an artist working full-time in super-hero comics, sometimes when you have some free time you want to experiment. Wonder Woman artist Cliff Chiang did just that a few years back with a series of illustrations imagining a band of Japanese superheroes inspired by the heroes of the Justice League. In what Chiang describes as a mix of DC, old school anime and kaiju, this take was almost greenlit by DC a years ago. Just imagine. – Chris A.
Note: Readers of Project: Rooftop have seen Ming Doyle grow to become an artist dynamo. She won our Superman: Man of Style contest, ranked high with her cosplay of Batgirl, and has become an integral part of the site. Doyle recently began doing work at Marvel on Girl Comics #1 and the recent Fantastic Four #600, and we’re excited to see what she does next! – Chris A.
Note: Out of a dusty back issue bin comes this week’s Redesign Rewind, taking a second look at the DC Elseworlds miniseries Secret Society of Super-Heroes from 2000. Illustrated by Mike McKone, these heroes have some enterprising upgrades to their suits. Superman is the most eye-catching for being so different from his standard duds, but what I liked most was the tunic-style costume of Green Lantern and the more confident Metamorpho redesign. Although never collected in one book, this two-issue series remains cheap on secondary markets and is worth a trip to the back issue bins.- Chris A.

Note: Project: Rooftop is about super-hero costume design appreciation, both with redesigns and respecting what’s gone on before. Artist Karl Heitmueller recently did a comic strip for Back Issue Magazine about the evolution of Superman’s costume in the wake of DC’s New 52.
