Man, the Global Alliance was right! Tabby-Cat is the best of the best when it comes to training superfolks. A few updates:

1. The entire first series of Butterfly, collecting all of the original, scrawly strips, is now available at Wowio as a free download for all U.S. residents! (Non-U.S. residents can email me for other options.) Please head over there and grab yourself a copy, as every new download helps to support my work here.

2. February 1st was Hourly Comic Day! Head over to The Forums to check out my entry.

3. Sequential Heart, a new charitable organization helmed by myself and Rachel Edidin of Darkhorse Comics and Girl-Wonder.org, donates comics and graphic novels to programs around the country that provide help and services to homeless and disadvantaged youth. Speaking of which, by Nashville pal Jason Horn has a new webcomic hosted here at TenCentTicker, called Ninjasaur! It’s about a ninja that’s a dinosaur…or a dinosaur that’s a ninja…one of those. Actually, I think it’s just about AWESOME. Go check it out!

If you started reading Butterfly when the original series began, then you have probably already seen this scene, though much more hastily scrawled onto typing paper. My good pal and frequent co-writer, John Campbell, and I have been working on a revision and retelling of the early Butterfly stories, and we did this page as a test. So lieu of a new strip, I hope you enjoy it. We’ll be back on the Booyah track next week!

In other news, over at my other site, Project: Rooftop, we’ve just announced the winners of the Wonder Woman Wardrobe War, which turned out some really great entries. The winner’s list also features reviews and commentary from the P:R Staff, the Zeus Comics crew (who provided the sweet prizes), and current Wonder Woman writer, Gail Simone!

Also, I’ve got a couple of original art pieces up over on eBay this week if you’re interested!

Reserve status in the Alliance! Nice. Butterfly’s gotta be pretty stoked about that. In case you missed it, here’s the special Halloween-themed header banner we ran here at the site. Whoo! Last weekend was SPX, a fantastic indy comics show in Bethesda, Maryland. Jason Horn, my wife Sonrisa, and I all had a blast at the show. Thanks to all the great folks that stopped by the table, especially 11-year-old comics creator Jessica Weiss, who I’d met earlier this year at another show.

I can’t get enough of this Global Alliance of Superheroes! By the way, I haven’t given Godsend’s sidekick a name yet if you’ve got any suggestions. I “live-blogged” the creation of this strip over on my LiveJournal yesterday if you’re interested in seeing a bunch of process shots.

My wife and I are getting pretty excited about our trip to Bethesda, Maryland next week for SPX! It’s Sonrisa’s first convention in a long time, so I’m hoping it’s a good one. I’ve just put in last minute orders for comics, prints, and buttons, so I should have plenty of stuff for Butterfly fans. My button-maker, Hello Voltage, just sent me this pic of my new button designs!

Also this week, I caught this rather well-written and carefully considered review of the Butterfly webcomic over at Rooktopia! I agree with his review pretty much entirely, and really enjoyed reading through it. Even “El Santo’s” crits are pretty valid, haha. Though, like many readers, I don’t think the reviewer has read Butterfly’s origin story in Superior Showcase #1, which most fans can only get from me at shows. (I think it recently became available at the AdHouse Books site again though, if you haven’t read it!) It’s not absolutely necessary to enjoy the webcomic, but there’s a few juicy secrets in that story that any Butterfly fan will enjoy.

In all-ages entertainment news, Legion of Superheroes is still rocking my face off, and The Sarah Jane Adventures are a blast!

Bubble Party! Haha. Well, I guess this marks the defeat of the Mighty Seth! Alas, we hardly knew ye. Or cared about ye.

This comic may hold the record for having the most Photoshop layers of any Butterfly strip I’ve run. Haha. I think there were four or five for the Beacon’s bubble shield effect alone! Speaking of artstuffs, check out these Butterfly fan art pics!

Btw, is anybody else LOVING Legion of Superheroes Season Two?! Holy wow, two Supermen really are better than one!

Grown-ups, huh? They never listen when you’ve just been turned into a giant over-powered superperson. Sheesh. Also, let me just tell you, I am really excited about these “Space Gods.”

Over at one of my other sites, Project: Rooftop, we just announced our 2nd annual costume contest: Fights, Flights, & Tights 2! Swing by and check it out! It’s a fun contest, so you should definitely enter.

By the way, for anyone who likes good superhero cartoons, there’s three bits of news this week worth mentioning:

1. Legion of Superheroes Season Two - Prepare for the Awesome. From this press release, it looks like this show is about to get game-changingly awesome. I am so psyched. I freaking LOVE these character designs! Wow! I get the feeling that since Teen Titans and Justice League have both ended, a bunch of hyper-talented folks were suddenly more available.

2. The upcoming Spider-Man cartoon looks to rock, based on the Sean Galloway’s released character designs. Man this show looks fun! I’ve been longing for a more fun-looking Spider-Man cartoon since I was a teenager. The 90’s series was too stodgy (though I watched!) and the last MTV one looked really stiff. Here’s hoping this one hits the mark. Spidey is a perfect character for animation!

3. Superman: Doomsday - Not for the kiddies, as it’s appropriately rated PG-13, but I enjoyed the heck out of this one, which was really surprising after the last few direct-to-video animated superhero flicks I’d watched. I really dug all the voice acting and Lex Luthor’s character design. All the special features are really great, too! Especially the New Frontier preview and the Life and Death of Superman retrospective. Louise Simonson is so cool!
