For years you’ve known this day would come. You’ve seen revamps try and fail. You have waited for a chance to show the brilliant merger of fashion and iconography that you’ve hidden away in your sketchbook.

You redesigned Batman. Or Supergirl, or Iron-Man, or Green Lantern. You took a character you love and made them look fresh and new, using practicality, design, color, and above all, with respect for the artists who’ve come before you and respect for the character they’ve molded over decades. Here is your chance to show the world.

In the aftermath of the internet-sweeping Batgirl Meme, and publications such as AdHouse Books‘ Project: Superior, redesigned superhero costumes have reached a boiling point. They’re cluttering up the blogs and homepages of artists across the world, fans and pros alike. It’s time for Project Rooftop.

Project Rooftop is where cartoonists and illustrators bring their costume design skills to task in tribute to the superheroes and villains we’ve grown up with. This site is intended to promote positive costume design as well as foster continued interest for these amazing characters.

All characters are copyrights and trademarks of the respective publishers and creators. All of the designs here were created not for profit and this site is used solely for artistic enjoyment.

Submission information coming soon.

  1. How about doing if for some characters that REALLLY need it like Captain Ultra, El Aguila, Le Peregrine and Marrina?

  2. This is a fantastic idea for a website! I look forward to many future entries. A suggestion: focus on one or two characters per month and showcase a series of redesigns that fans of the site could then vote as to which is their favorite(s).

  3. I was digging around for Paul Pope stuff and found a link to project rooftop. I’m stymied how I missed this site after so many years up and running. I spent the last hour or so looking through every post. Great, great stuff.
