Note: Career Day is P:R’s column devoted to occupational, period, and conceptual redesigns of superheroes. Rooftop Regular and good friend of the site Alex Mitchell has sent us another period reimagining, this time of the entire “Magnificent Seven” version of Justice League of America (my favorite!) in Japanese sword-fighting movie style. Enjoy the awesome and check out Alex’s DeviantArt gallery for larger versions. – Dean Trippe

/ November 16, 2010Oh man, every single one of these is spot on, the tropes are perfectly matched from the original heroes to their Japanese folklore counterparts.
The only one that bothers me at all is Chinese Mountain Monk. His staff and robes seem too.. (I’m trying to find the right word here) fancy?

/ November 17, 2010Bat Demon Warrior forever

Adam Hoffman
/ November 18, 2010Someone really knows their Japanese folklore and history. Green Lantern, for instance. Edo era policemen were known for carrying paper lanterns with them. It fits perfectly.
Niall Mor
/ November 18, 2010These are brilliant! Love ‘em!
Roberto
/ November 19, 2010@ John
DC already did something similar. It was an Elseworlds story called JLA: Shogun of Steel.
Batman is a woman in that story :)
Alex Mitchell
/ November 19, 2010You are all terribly kind. There are few things more rewarding than people reacting favorably to your work.
saralleine
/ November 20, 2010My heart! This is so amazingly awesome. I love the ‘mon’ on Lantern Bearer’s robe and how it’s actually just another version of the Green Lantern logo!
I want more, more, more!
Black Canary! Hawkman (and Hawkgirl!) Zatanna! Maybe some villains? The Joker? Catwoman (Lady Cat Ninja!) Sinestro!
saralleine
/ November 20, 2010also! I just caught how the serpent on Steel Man’s vest is actually just an ‘S’
You, sir, are a genius.

/ January 9, 2012FYI Robin annual 3 from 1994 had an elseworlds story in Japan that is actually a bit better than Shogun of STeel IMO
Marvel released 5 ronin last year with deadpool punisher ect as sumurai in Japan but it sucked…
