  1. these are all fantastic, and they all say captain planet SOMEHOW, but i’m just a tad confused on the concept. is it a team of Captain planets? or just 8 fully elaborated redesigns on the guy?

  2. i think a team of captain planets wouldn’t really DITCH the planeteers as much as it would revamp them. what if they’d turn into sort of “demi-captain planets” themselves like what we see here in Mr. Perkin’s designs?

as far as picking a favorite design, its a tough choice! it’d have to be the second to last. (except possibly with some hair. MAYBE.

i genuinely love the incorporation of the yellow globe on all the designs.

  3. They could work as Ben10 meets Firestorm/Forever People revision: Depending on which Planeteer is “in charge”, the Captain takes on a different appearance.

Love these. Very mature, very fun, and really smart choices for the “armor”. I see lots of multicultural nods.

  4. Love them all. I especially love the more tribal-looking designs, evoking a more primal kind of Captain Planet. I also love how a lot of the red armour looks like it is crafted out of earth/lava.

The way they are laid out, it also looks like an evolution of Captain Planet, based on whatever civilization was in ascendancy at the time. The idea of an evolving Cap, even if unintentional, is quite awesome.

  5. I like the barefoot idea with his theme. The bottom two just don’t work for me though. He doesn’t have any pants!

Middle one on the thirdpage seems closest to working for me. The green hair really isn’t necessary, though I know the whole Gaia’s Champion stuff.

Without all the preachy moralizing, some ‘gray area’ villains instead of the traditional unabashedly evil ones, and maybe a new set of kids (Requiring finding writers who can actually take into account how powerful the Heart ability can be, and minus the Idiot American stereotype), it could actually work.

  6. this definitely needs to happen if they gcould get a writer that could make captain planet interestig enough I might actually read it if they went with one of these designs or took elements from some of them.

I like the hair cut, on the second in the first panel and the design of the costume on the second of the third panel, those two combined and maybe give the planeteers not so lame and yeah i’d read them.

That WOULD sell several more action figures!

I like these redesigns, particularly since they 1) lose the mullet; and 2) keep the challenging color scheme. It would have been very easy to just lose the red-and-light-blue and go with something “safe.” Still, one wonders why there’s never been brown in the palette, what with the planet containing so much of it.

  8. Why red and blue? See Superman, Captain America, Wonder Woman, Cyclops, Spiderman. They wanted to give Captain Planet instant protagonist status.

Environmental heroes like Swamp Thing or designs that look like Clayface would be a hard sell.

  9. I really like the last two, myself, particularly the African facial features. It lends the Captain an air of gravitas that the rest don’t quite muster; that Captain speaks with a resonant Keith David rumble with subsonic undertones.

Can’t you just hear it? That spine-shivering voice, rumbling deep from the depths of Terra:

By your powers combined … I … am Captain … PLANET!

Oh, and the last one, with the golden globe?

    Totally Doctor Manplanet.

  10. I love the African looking Captain Planet. I think it could make a lot of sense if written well.

  11. great designs! but, TBH, some of the designs, especially those with the tiara and swirly accessories makes it look like the cast of mahabharatta

  12. Great work. Always liked the concept of the character but not the execution or the look. I really like the team idea, but I’d make them each control an element. And then they could fuse into one being of pure elemental energy, not just the powers fusing. I also like the way that in some concepts his body is made up of fire, earth, water, etc.

  13. I’ve always sat on the idea of a more horrific Captain Planet. Think something like the title character of the Betterman anime. You have this giant blue Kaijuu that is kept at bay by these five kids from all over the world and they turn him loose when things get out of hand. However, they can’t control it really and it can potentially cause more problems than it fixes when it decides that threats to the environment are a bigger priority than human lives. The scariest part, you look in its eyes and you know it’s intellegent. It’s not rampaging for no reason, it’s acting with a plan and all the planeteer’s can do is stand there and pray that plan doesn’t put people in the path of destruction
