  1. I love the way they match (with pads being at same places and all) but are so different with colors being dark and light, the shapes being straight and curved.

  2. Let me start by saying two things; 1-These are better than Rob Liefeld’s redesigns and 2- I never “got” H&D. They always seemed like a Batman & Robin ripoff but really, really D-list…kind of like Dokken in the 1980s heavy metal scene…almost unnecessary with the likes of Van Halen and Motley Crue running around (showing my age again).

These designs by Sean seem to follow the trend of Hawk & Dove being very generic looking. If they weren’t standing next to each other I’d have a tough time identifying them. Both are too busy and neither really have solid focal point. The feather cape thing along with the long ribbon feathers seem like a bit too much on Hawks shoulders, maybe just one or the other. The ribcage & hip lines/piping are confusing to me…are they glowing like the boot seams? These don’t do much to elevate the characters from their mediocrity IMO.

I do like the recoloring of Hawk with 2 tone reds, white never worked for him and the current gray is worse.

  3. It’s nice art. but the differences are so slight that I’m afraid it doesn’t do much for me. Hawk’s dark palette is appreciated, but other than that this isn’t much of a change- and even that is very subtle.

  4. I don’t like the silver highlights on Hawk and the gold highlights on Dove, but otherwise I prefer these to the recent revisions coming in September.

Honestly though, I think the 80s versions of the costumes were H&D at their absolute best.

  5. The darker colors on Hawk fit him perfectly. Although I wish there were a way to get around the feather “capes” both of them wear. They’re completely non-functional. Yet, they’re the only elements of their costumes that are at all memorable.

Although, now that I think about it, I frequently get Hawk and Dove confused with the bird-influenced costumes from Battle of the Planets and (to extend the bird metaphor) that’s a hell of an albatross to carry around your neck from a design standpoint.

  6. Love the new look, too bad they can’t use something like this for the reboot. I guess when you’re releasing 52 new comics in one month plus your regulars, you have to use a sh*tty artist every now and again. Would have preferred that dark red replace the lighter red, and then white the rest of it. He would contrast better next to Dove I think. Very cool over all. @Jay … how are the like Batman and Robin? The originals were brothers, and Hank +whoever have always been mystically powered.

  7. Why are people saying this better than Liefeld redesign? He didn’t redesign them at all other than making Hawk’s costume dark grey

  8. Hmm. I’m afraid a female Dove runs into far too many unfortunate implications for me. The design, however, is well done.
