Superheroes, Redesigned

P:R Approved: Kevin Wada’s X-Men Coutoure, Part 4!

Note: Is too much a good thing a bad thing? Of course not, especially when it comes to Kevin Wada‘s dramatic takes on Marvel’s mutants. This time out, he takes on four more men and women, including a version of Bishop so inspired I made it my wallpaper! Take time out to soak in each of them — if you don’t, you’ll be missing the best parts! – Chris A.

That Magneto design should be used in the comics right now.

Man, I could look at this dude’s work all day long. All. Day. Long, I tell you!

  5. That Magneto is awesome!

  6. Gah! Magneto’s cape pin!!! swoon.

  7. Just in case not enough people say it, that Magneto is amazing.

I’ve always thought Bishop was only one step better than Cable in design, but this is a pretty palatable Bishop I wouldn’t mind seeing regularly. Gives him a lot more character than simply ‘jaded future militia guy.’

  8. OMG Magneto is just brilliant, the floating cane, the posture, suit – Pure.Genius.at.work. This man needs a book. NOW.

and Scarlet Witch, Dani and esp Bishop are no slouches either, but Magneto takes the cake, and eats it. EATS IT.

Is too much of a good thing a bad thing? By definition yes. That’s what TOO MUCH means. Its precisely the quantity that is negatively excessive. But of course that’s just me being pernickity and finding stupid faults. On the flip side the images that follow this statement I simply cannot find anything wrong with.

So yeah I was using a negative to lead into a positive and prove that even a picky loser like me finds these images sensational

Even though I’ve enjoyed all the art from this series of designs, I haven’t quite ‘gotten’ it. I didn’t know really what the point was. BUT– I have to say that Magneto is fantastic.
It reminds me of– does anyone remember the 80s cartoon “Spiderman & His Amazing Friends”? There was an episode where Firestar was secretly dating Magneto, and the series played with the idea that Magneto was this big player with the ladies. That’s THIS Magneto.
And that’s a Magneto I can get on board with.

  11. It’s all really impressive except for the moonstar. She doesn’t seem to connect with her character.

From what I’ve seen and read, the point was to take the X-Men and apply high fashion and couture to their look. Not aiming for function but just taking the root of the character design and story and applying a Vogue eye.

  13. Kevin’s work is amazing on sooooo many levels. The artwork is phenomenal, the subtle ways he incorporates the character’s signature style and characteristics and then pumping that up into a couture look is JUST.PLAIN.GENIUS! So impressive.

I *want* Bishop’s pants! Those little X belt loops are so cool. Dani’s shoes are awesome though I think her fringed dress would have been more character appropriate in neutral tones (though not nearly as striking!) And someone send Sir Ian McKellen or Michael (swoon!) Fassbender that Magneto outfit!

  14. AWESOME!!

  15. Magneto here is amazing, genuinely amazing.

    I just noticed Dani’s shoes.

    Sweet!

Dani’s shoes! Those are Serious Heels. I’m cool with Dani being tarted up in sunset feathers, but I need her shoes. They are freaking amazing! And Wanda has more personality in her face here than I’ve ever seen, nicely done.

  18. The style of these look like illustrations from ’70 era Playboy magazines…I’m all for different takes but (for comics at least) I say capes, tights and masks can’t be topped. That being said – Scarlet Witch is pretty good.

  19. Magneto here looks a bit like the first incarnation of the Doctor:

I consider this to be one of the many strengths of the design. Magneto should have been rocking that look in “House of M” instead of ripping of the king of Spain:
